First Day of School!

What an exciting first day of school!  I am so thrilled to be working with 25 fabulous students!  They are definitely going to be Fabulous Fourth Graders!  We had quite a busy day today.  Fourth grade will sure take some getting used too, but the kids seem ready for the challenge.

The students were excited about our classroom.  I made some MAJOR changes to the look and feel of the room this summer!  I can't wait to post some pictures!  The biggest change was the movement of our class library to the center of the room.  We really want to make literacy the focus this year.  Reading and writing are so important!  Students read and write in every academic area, so I wanted to show them how important that really is.  Currently the classroom library is closed!  We are going to spend time next week working on organizing our books and figuring out different categories they fit in.  We are also hoping to spend a day or two with Ms. Maniaci learning about genres of books found in the Luther library.  This may be helpful as we reorganize our books.

Our class learned that Mrs. Hartin and Mrs. Sullivan, two fabulous teachers at Luther will be in our room teaching alongside me.  Students seemed excited to work with them.  I am also going through the process of Literacy Coaching with Mrs. Johnson, a 3rd grade Purdy teacher who is also one of the School District's Literacy Coaches.  We are working together to learn new methods in working with students in reading and writing.  Mrs. Johnson will work with the class the entire school year!

Finally, we had a new pet arrive Tuesday!  Our class now has a pet guinea pig!  More information about him or her (be do not know yet) to follow!

Today was a TERRIFIC THURSDAY!
